In continuation of my previous article about the process of generating MAC addresses for virtual machines .
Table prefixes that use different manufacturers:
Reserved for | Prefixes |
VMware | 00:05:69 00:0 C: 29 00:1 C: 14 00:50:56 |
Microsoft | 00:03: FF 00:0 D: 3A 00:12:5 A 00:15:5 D 00:17: FA 00:1 D: D8 00:50: F2 |
XenSource | 00:16:3 E |
As can be seen in VMware-and four Organizationally unique identifier-a (OUI). Here are a few words about these prefixes:
- 00:0 C: 29 - this prefix is used to generate MAC addresses for virtual network adapter, ESX / ESXi hosts. So is this prefix is used, and other products VMware, to generate a MAC address, such as VMware Workstation, VMware Fusion, VMware Server.
- 00:50:56 - This prefix is used to generate MAC addresses for virtual network adapters, vCenter servers. So is the prefix used to bind / static MAC addresses to prescribe the virtual network adapter.
- 00:05:69 - This prefix is used older products VMware, such as ESX 1.0 - 2.5, VMware GSX Server, etc., to generate a MAC address.
- 00-1C-14 - this prefix unfortunately I have not found any information.
