Installing & Configuring VMware View 5
In last article we learn How to Install VMware View 5. Now we are going to configure VMware view 5. So lets get started, When we install the VMware View Connection server 5 a local View LDAP configuration is created & we can manage it via Vmware view Administrator Console.
1. First Download all VMware view 5 components
2. For VMware view 5 installation refer How to Install VMware View 5 guide
3. Now we need to Configure VMware view 5 Server via VMware view Administrator,
Establish connectivity in between VMware View 5 & vCenter Server 5. To do this click on "View Configuration"-> Servers->Add. Enter vCenter Server address & Login credentials as shown below & click on Add. In my case I haven’t configured View Composer so for now I will leave that blank.
Now you view the added vCenter Server,
Install VMware View Agent on Virtual Machine
In my case I have one Windows 7 Virtual Machine that I want to add to my connection server. For virtual machine to communicate with Connection Server we need to install the VMware View Agent on Windows 7 Virtual Machine..
Click Next to continue,
Accept VMware Patent Agreement & Click Next,
Accept VMware License Agreement & Click Next,
Click Next to Continue,
Click Install,
Click Finnish to complete installation. Under Windows 7 VM service you will see the VMware view Agent service running.
Create Desktop Pools;
Now our vCenter is communicating with VMware View Connection server & Vmware view agent is installed on Windows 7 VM. Now we are ready to define desktop pools,
There are three different types of Pool as shown below, i.e. Automated,Manual & Terminal Services
To add a Pool go to Inventory-> Pools-> Click the Add Button. For test environment I am going with Manual Pool as I have only one VM & click Next.
In my case I am going to assign dedicated desktop to my user. We can go with Floating option if you want Users to pick random desktopn from the desktop pool.
Select "vCenter Virtual machine" option as all my VM's coming from vCenter Server, If you have Physical computers or VMs not managed by vCenter you can go for "other sources" option.
Select your vCenter Server as shown below,
Setup your pool Identification as shown below,
Configure Pool settings as shown below, I have changed few options,
Automatically Logoff after disconnect to 5 Minutes
Adobe flash quality etc..
Now you will se the Vm's on which you have installed VMware view agent, Select the VM's you want to add & Click Next,
Review the settings & click on finish.
Now we need to "Add Entitlement" to our VM, So go to Pools-> Select your Pool-> Click Entitlement button & click on Add as shown below,
Find a user or group that you want to Entitle & click on Ok
Install VMware View Client,
Now need to install VMware View Client to access VM's. I am going to install VMware View Client with Local Mode,
Click next to continue,
Click Next
Enter your Connection Server IP, in my case my VMware View Connection server ip 192.168.16.140 as shown below,
Click Next to continue,
Click on Install to start Installation,
Click finish to complete installation,
Now open VMware View Client& enter your Connection Server IP & Click on Connect.
Enter your Login Credentials,
Select your desktop pool & Click Connect button,
Here Come, your Windows 7 VM, Also If want you can connect USB drives to your VMware View VM..
